The Inspiration...
In 2020, my partner and I brought a new puppy home not knowing how much of an impact he would have on our lives.
Meet Leo! He grew into a large, fluffy, goofy, sweet, silly, loving boy who is always down for a new adventure.
The Idea...
I wanted something to always remember Leo that was more special than pictures on my phone. I had heard of personalized books with children, however I hadn't seen one with your pet. After some research I saw that you could get a dog that was the same breed or similar color, but it wasn't actually your dog.
What if we could use AI to transform your dog into the main character of their own book?
The Vision...
I knew I didn't want to create a children's book that would eventually be donated or forgotten about. It was still going to be a fun, family-friendly story with vibrant images, but with the quality and purpose of a keepsake book.
The book would be used to share your dog's memory with your family for generations to come. You have a memorable keepsake of your best friend and your kids, nieces or nephews have a fun character to read about. Think, a more meaningful Clifford the Big Red Dog or Paw Patrol character!
The Story...
In 2023, after playing around with the first version of the AI image generator, I started crafting the story I wanted. It had to be something that applied to all dogs, hence As Your Dog Sleeps! Who hasn’t wondered what their dog has been dreaming of?
The first draft of the story was very short. After receiving the first print of this book I realized that if this was going to be something people revisited and passed down, the story would have to be more engaging. Back to the drawing board…
The Revisions...
As the story evolved it became more difficult to create the images for each page now that the story was more complex.
A few months later, an updated version of the AI generator was released. The dogs looked more realistic, the images were more vibrant and it followed the prompts we gave more closely!
There was no doubt in my mind that this was going to be something people wanted!
The Final Book!
Receiving the first printed copy of As Leo Sleeps… was so exciting. My idea had come to life! Leo’s character would forever be captured in a fun adventure book. It would be something I passed to my kids and grandkids so that Leo could be a character in their lives as he was in mine.
I was so excited to start making books for other dogs now!
